Kathy and I have been working in development for more than 25 years. So what we do seems pretty normal to us, and it seems pretty normal to people who do more or less the same thing we do. But I've come to realize that most people we know don't have any real understanding of what we do, and, perhaps more significantly, we're not very good at describing what we do. At least, not in a 2-minute cocktail party sort of way.
So this blog is an attempt to describe what our work lives are like as we take new jobs in Cambodia. What we do with a touch of why we do it. I hope to both give a feel for what it is like to work in development and to reflect on some of the issues that face anyone working in development. If it works well maybe it will turn into a sort of dialogue; if it works less well it will keep a few of our friends and family more up to date on our lives 6000 miles from home.
